The first step you must take is to really spend some time thinking. Start by asking yourself questions.

If you panic easily, the best option for you is to probably stay away from investigating the paranormal. Now that you have your group and your basic equipment, start by doing a few daytime ghost hunts at a local cemetery.

The Silvia has to be one of the best all round packages out there. On the circuit, at the drag strip and of course out drifting, the S-series Silvia's have always done well in many categories of motor sport in Japan. So just how far can you go with an S15 Silvia? Well, that's where Sequential come in. Based in Suita, northern Osaka, they were founded in 2000 (Sequential requested that the owner remain anonymous) and have two workshops, one in Suita and one in Kobe. They do all mechanical work in house and specialize in 'one-off' enhancements.

This has got to be bad timing...

After one failed attempt the week before, I finally made it to the Sequential workshop in the trusty R32 Skyline. I was late about 30 minutes, but as I arrived I saw that the mechanics were only just opening the roller doors at 11am... strange, I thought they opened at 10? As soon as I pulled up I was told that I had to move my car, as they were expecting some clients to arrive sometime in the next hour... that was strange too because where were the clients going to park? The place was already full of cars! Oh well, just go and park at the Yakiniku restaurant next door. Something was telling me this wasn't going to be an easy photo shoot...

"Ohayou Gozaimasu", Kitayama-san greeted me with a little restrained look on his face. He quickly told me that no less than three clients were on Thorfrog way, so he won't be able to help me out for at least 45 minutes, maybe more. I told him it was ok, and asked if I could start photographing the car without him. "Hmmmmm... (long pause)... Ok" Kitayama said, he then quickly disappeared into the showroom. He looked like he had 100 things on his mind, any more small talk Spider-Man probably stretch the friendship... So where was the car? Oh, there it was, hosted exchange services at the top right corner of the car yard behind, what, 5 other cars. But never mind, the sun was out, it wasn't too cold (actually it was about 4 degrees) and this car was worth the trouble!

Wow. Just about every square inch of the car was modified in some way and on closer inspection it became obvious that the car wasn't for street use, in fact it was so low to the ground that even getting it on a flatbed truck would require removal of the front bumper. Known as the 'Waru Ichi Go' (or translated directly, Bad number 1), the Sequential Fire SF-15 Silvia was built for one thing only... circuit racing. During the interview, Kitayama made it clear that the SF-15 wouldn't be modified anymore, and that they would be starting a new project based once again on a Silvia. For the time being though, the SF-15 is still their flagship demo car.

Without a doubt, the bodywork of the SF-15 is the most striking feature. Starting with the body kit, it's an original 'one off' design from Sequential incorporating the front bumper with huge carbon fiber splitter, front fenders (50mm wide), side skirts, and truly awesome rear fenders. The rear fenders really need an article all for themselves! Sequential have widened the factory rear fenders 50mm by attaching fiberglass 'blister fenders', to do this metal had to be cut around the rear wheel arch, then the metal forward of the wheel arch was bent to make the large 'air intake' you can see in front of each rear wheel. The blister fenders were then painstakingly sanded and molded into place giving what is a truly remarkable finished product. So smooth is the transition from factory metal to blister fender that you'd be hard pressed to tell whether or not the guards have been widened 50mm at all. Kitayama-san wasn't sure why I was so interested in the rear fenders, as any number of Silvia's from various Japanese tuning garages have similar work done. The rest of the aero package is made up of 'off the shelf' parts, including a Yashio Factory carbon bonnet and carbon trunk lid with carbon plate reinforcements, Sard carbon West Virginia Lemon Laws Wing and a one off carbon rear diffuser (not on the car). Carbon canard winglets, carbon dummy headlights - it's not road registered remember - and Craft Square Tuning Competition mirrors complete an original and striking S15 Silvia aero package.

Lifting the carbon bonnet, the first thing that practically slaps you in the face is the HKS 3037 turbine followed closely by the Greddy intake plenum. But let's start with the engine though, it's been pulled down, balanced and rebuilt using a TODA 2.2L kit, TODA 272 degree cams, Trust 'H-section' conrods, balanced and lightened crank, TODA reinforced valve springs, HKS 1.2mm metal head gasket , NA throttle body, the above mentioned HKS 3037 with HKS special racing wastegate and the Greddy intake plenum. The turbine exhales through a one off stainless steel exhaust manifold, a straight through pipe to replace the catalytic converter and on to a one off titanium muffler with full titanium piping. SARD 830cc injectors are used and fuel pressure is provided by a Bosch fuel pump. The intake air enters through a BLITZ SUS Power air cleaner with custom piping then travels through a Trust 3-layer intercooler then on to the plenum. Cooling the engine is taken care of by an RG aluminum radiator with a nice air deflector attached to the back that feeds the hot air out through the air vents in the carbon bonnet, and not to mention the twin HKS S15 oil coolers. Kitayama-san described the engine management system as a "Sequential special ECU"...another one off item, Sequential proudly point out that they haven't used a piggy back or sub-computer at all, they've only modified the standard ECU's chipset as well as using a 'NEKO Corporation' A/F meter and controller which is a different approach to the usual HKS or APEX engine management systems. Kitayama-san also quoted a power figure of 550ps, but that figure was from mid last year, so he didn't want to go too much into it's present state of tune... but more on that later. As for the driveline, an OS Giken 5-speed close ratio gear set has been installed into the Silvia gearbox and an EXEDY twin plate clutch transmits power through to an ATS Carbon LSD.

The suspension is somewhat of a mixed bag brand wise too, RG JTC N1 fully adjustable dampers (Sequential special modified version) with Bestex springs rated at 12kg/mm for the front, 10kg/mm for the rear. The suspension arms continue the mixed-brand approach with Cusco adjustable pillow and upper mounts, Cusco toe control arms and Ikeya Formula roll center 'Type A' lower arms. Braking has had some serious money spent on it with R33 GT-R Endless 6-pot calipers up front and Endless 4-pot calipers at the back with Endless vented and slotted rotors all round. Sequential frequently change the wheels on this car, but currently they're Final Speed 'Eraser' alloys in 179.0JJ front and rear wrapped with Yokohama Advan Neova A048 S-tires in 255/40/17 sizes on all four corners.

Now to the interior, which is all business starting with any unused parts stripped and thrown away... or just put somewhere for safe keeping. The single black Recaro SP-GII seat with Sabelt 4-point harnesses dominates the otherwise empty cabin while most of the modifications are confined to the dashboard. Just about every orifice in the dash has been covered with carbon fiber panels with even two of the five air vents covered up. The air conditioner and audio system area is now home to the HKS EVC3 boost controller, NEKOcorporation AF700 Air/Fuel monitor, NEKOcorporation LCD640 Air/Fuel controller and a host of minor switchgear. Hiding behind the MOMO Type 07 suede steering wheel is the SARD Stack ST8100 display system with single analogue tachometer and LCD readout that takes pride of place where the factory instrument cluster once was, sitting nicely in a SARD carbon fiber meter panel kit incorporating a vertical row of shift lights. Body strengthening inside the cabin comes in the form of a one off roll cage, with the battery, fire extinguisher, ECU and associated wiring all carefully laid along the bare painted floor. In the trunk, a lot of additional bracing has been installed mainly due to the down force produced by the Sard GT Wing... apparently it works, so a lot of pressure is applied to the top of the trunk which would probably buckle and eventually break without the additional support.

So that wraps up what is one of the more serious circuit S15 Silvia's in Osaka. Sequential have made Silvia's their main focus, as can be seen on any given day outside their shop. But they tune all makes and models, in fact their EG6 Honda Civic 'WARU #2' was there as were a couple of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions and others. While I was taking pictures of the garage area, a black R32 Skyline GTS-t was being worked on, which has possibly the craziest body kit in existence on it. On of the mechanics told me that it was most definitely a one off (how many times have we heard that at Sequential!) and it was pretty much an extension of the owners personality... was he joking? If that body kit tells you something about the owner, then I don't want to meet him! As work was being done to the car at the time, I couldn't get shots of the front bumper, sorry! Needless to say the front bumper is similar to the rear but with large holes for the intercooler etc.

The Sequential employees were very friendly despite being incredibly busy, there were actually 4 customers in the shop plus the 3 clients that had car troubles mentioned earlier.... and this was a Sunday! I'll definitely be going back to see their other demo cars, Kitayama-san might even take me out in his personal S14 Silvia K's drift car, which also happens to be his daily driver. Oh and Sequential will be debuting their all new Silvia demo car at the 2005 Osaka Auto Messe on February 11 - 13.

The people who are in control want to remain there at any cost, especially if that cost is merely at the lives and fortunes of the American people. Our government has gone spend crazy and the rest of the world is going to stop taking our promise to pay. When this happens the dollar will collapse along with the stock market which will also cause interruptions in the transportation system and possibly municipal utilities.

The prices of everything will skyrocket as the Buprenorphine drops. This will allow them to declare martial law and force us to accept whatever they want to give back to us after they take all that we have.

If this is hard for you to believe, Do some research, the right information could save your life.

The Book of Mormon: A Witness to the Fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

The fourth Article of Faith of the Mormon Church says:

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

This represents the basic foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught by the Mormon Church. These steps are what a person must do to enter a covenant with Christ and enter the path that leads to Eternal Life. The word Gospel is a contraction of Good and Spell and means literally the good story or good news. The Good News of Jesus Christ is that He suffered for our sins, died, and was resurrected from the dead. This constitutes the Atonement of Jesus Christ through which all mankind can be saved in the Kingdom of Heaven through faith, repentance, baptism, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endurance to the end. The Book of Mormon usually refers to this as the Doctrine of Christ.

Mormons teach that the fullness of the Gospel, or the complete teachings Demimonde the Gospel as well as the authority to perform baptism and the covenants God makes with man were lost from the earth in the centuries following Christs death and resurrection and that these teachings and this authority were restored through modern day prophets beginning with Joseph Smith. Part of that restoration was the Book of Mormon, which the Lord gave to help us understand more fully this essential doctrine. In a revelation given to Joseph Smith, Jesus Christ said, the elders, priests and teachers of this church shall teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, in the which is the fullness of the gospel (Doctrine &Covenants 42:12).
Contrary to critical attacks, the Book of Mormon does explain the fullness of the Gospel. Shortly after his resurrection, Jesus Christ appeared to some of the ancient inhabitants in the Americas and said this:

Behold I have given unto you my gospel, and this is the gospel which I have given unto you--that I came into the world to do the will of my Father, because my Father sent me. And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil--And for this cause have I been lifted up; therefore, according to the power of the Father I will draw all men unto me, that they may be judged according to their works. And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world. And he that endureth not unto the end, the same is he that is also hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence they can no more return, because of the justice of the Father [ ] And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end (3 Nephi 27:13-17, 19; pg 459, emphasis added).

This describes the basic elements of the Gospel according to Mormonism:

Jesus came into the world to do the will of the Father
The Fathers will was that he die on the cross and draw men unto him through the Atonement and Resurrection
Men will return to Father to be judged of their works
Only those who have faith, repent, be baptized and endure to the end will be saved
Through faith, repentance, baptism, and endurance to the end through the power of the Holy Spirit, a persons sins are cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ which atoned for all sin.

The Apostle Paul said something very similar about the basic nature and emphasis of the Gospel. He said to the Corinthians, [W]e preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness (1 Cor 1:23). To the Romans he said, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Rom 1:16). Through the power of the Gospel, the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ becomes active in a persons life, and they become clean from all sin.

This is the good news that lifts up mourning hearts, brings hope to those in despair, comforts and restores lost souls, and makes possible every good thing. This is the foundation of the teachings of the Mormon Church. The Prophet Joseph Smith said,

The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it. But in connection with these, we believe in the gift of the Holy Ghost, the power of faith, the enjoyment of the spiritual gifts according to the will of God, the restoration of the house of Israel, and the final triumph of truth (Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 vols. 3:30).

Faith

Faith is more than believing Jesus exists, it means believing Him when He says that you will be forgiven of your sins and saved in His Kingdom. This faith includes two parts:

The belief that all who live on Earth are granted salvation from death (physical resurrection) through the Atonement
That salvation from sin (or spiritual death) is obtained through sincere repentance, resulting in forgiveness for sin through His grace, and by following the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ.

Mormons are encouraged to develop their faith through study, prayer, service, and obedience to God's commandments. Faith is a form of spiritual work and character-shaping, in conjunction with the miracle of Christ's Atonement. Mormons often refer to their personal faith as their testimony and refer to telling others about their faith as "bearing testimony."

The Book of Mormon discusses how to develop faith (see Alma 32:18-43, pgs 289-291). We begin by being humble and teachable. If we are arrogant, the Spirit of God cannot work within us. Second, we desire to believe. The Book of Mormon compares this to planting a seed and watering it. We plant the seed by desiring to believe in Jesus Christ and in the Book of Mormon, which teaches of Him. We nurture the seed through prayer, scripture study, service to others, and keeping the commandments. As we do this, the Holy Sprit will enter our hearts and we will know that what we are studying and doing is true. If we do not experiment with our faith by keeping the commandments, praying, and attending church, the Spirit will not tell us whether the scriptures are true.

Repentance

Once a person begins to develop faith, the next step is repentance. Repentance is a wonderful gift from a loving Father in Heaven. Through repentance we can overcome weaknesses and move beyond mistakes we have made in the past.

To repent we must acknowledge our mistakes and weaknesses. We must take responsibility for our own actions and recognize that what we have done has hurt others and offended God. Second, we must forsake the sins. This means we must stop doing it and never return to it again. We must, if possible, make restitution. This means that if we stole something, we should return it or pay the person for what we took. If we lied or hurt someones feelings, we must apologize. Restitution is not always possible, but we must always apologize and ask for forgiveness from those we offended or hurt. God is able to heal all wounds and when we trust in Him, we can be forgiven. Finally, we must ask for forgiveness from God through prayer.

When we have done this, we have this promise from God:

Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more. By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins--behold, he will confess them and forsake them (Doctrine and Covenants 58:42-43, pg 106).

When we have sincerely repented, we have Gods promise, and God cannot lie, that we are forgiven. To become clean from all our sins and become a new creature in Christ, we must follow repentance with baptism. However, as everyone continues to make mistakes, we must repent throughout our lives and continually turn towards God for strength and forgiveness. Through the sacrament, called by other denominations the Eucharist, which Mormons partake every Sunday, we renew the covenants made at baptism and thus renew the cleansing of the Holy Spirit. The Doctrine and Covenants of the Mormon Church says:

Yea, repent and be baptized, every one of you, for a remission of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost. Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and remember that they shall have faith in me or they can in nowise be saved And upon this rock I will build my church; yea, upon this rock ye are built, and if ye continue, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you (D&C 33:11-13).

Since this Gospel is the rock upon which the Mormon Church is built it follows that these are the first steps taken by converts to the Mormon faith. After faith and repentance, a person is baptized by immersion for the remission of sins.

Baptism

Baptism by immersion is a symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul said, Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection (Romans 6:3-5)

Baptism also serves a sign of ones covenant with Jesus Christ to take His name upon you and serve Him and keep His commandments until death. Mormons call this the baptismal covenant. It includes:

Taking the name of Jesus Christ upon us and become one of His people
Bearing one anothers burdens
Mourning with those who are suffering and comfort them
Standing as a witness of God at all times and in all places
Serving God and keeping His commandments (See Mosiah 18:8-10, pg 181)

God in turn promises that those who keep their baptismal covenants will

Receive a greater portion of His Holy Spirit
Be redeemed (i.e. saved)

Baptism by water for the remission of Sins

The prayer for baptism is simple and straightforward. The officiator holds his right arm up, bows his head and says:

Having been commissioned of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.

The officiator then dunks the person completely under the water to symbolize the death of the old self, burial, and the promised resurrection through Jesus Christ.

Baptism by Fire and the Holy Ghost

Baptism is actually composed of two parts: baptism by water and baptism by fire. John the Baptist said, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire (Matthew 3:11). It is through this baptism of the Holy Ghost that a person will be cleansed of his or her sins. In the Mormon Church, this ordinance is called confirmation and it typically occurs in the Sunday services in the week following baptism.

In confirmation, also called the laying on of hands, a priesthood holder lays his hands upon the new members head and gives him or her a blessing. This blessing is similar to a prayer. He will call them by name and through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, confirm them a member of the Mormon Church and give them the Gift of the Holy Ghost, which means the right to have the Holy Spirit as a constant companion. Finally, he pronounces blessings and promises as the Spirit inspires him and will close in the name of Jesus Christ.

Enduring to the End

Jesus Christ said to his disciples, strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it (Matt 7:14). Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is the gate that leads to the Way. The Book of Mormon teaches this more clearly:

For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost. And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive (2 Nephi 31:17-18; pg 114).

Once we have entered the path, we must continue on the path that leads to Eternal Life. Mormons call this enduring to the end. Again, the Book of Mormon gives us a good explanation of what this means. It says:

Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life (2 Nephi 31:20; pg 114).

We must endure with steadiness in obedience to Jesus Christs commands, being filled with hope and love. We must his blog on Christs words, which means we must continue to study His words in the scriptures and as given by revelation through living prophets. This corresponds to what the Apostle Paul said as he discussed faith, hope, and charity (see 1 Corinthians 13).
Enduring to the end does not means that Mormons expect to be perfect. Part of enduring is continuing to improve oneself through repentance whenever something is out of harmony with Gods will. Because people continue to make mistakes, the Lord has provided a way to renew these covenants. Every Sunday Mormons partake of the Sacrament, usually called the Eucharist or Lords Supper in other churches. The Sacrament consists of broken bread and water to symbolize the body and blood of Jesus Christ. For faithful Mormons this represents a renewal of the covenants and commitments made at baptism and an opportunity to meditate upon the atoning mission of Jesus Christ.

Enduring to the end also requires service to others. The Book of Mormon teaches that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God (Mosiah 2:17; pg 148). A person endures by growing in Godly attributes. Elder Dallin H. Oaks, a modern prophet like Joseph Smith in the Mormon Church said:

The Apostle Paul taught that the Lord's teachings and teachers were given that we may all attain "the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ" (Eph. 4:13). This process requires far more than acquiring knowledge. It is not even enough for us to be convinced of the gospel; we must act and think so that we are converted by it. In contrast to the institutions of the world, which teach us to know something, the gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to become something (The Challenge to Become, Conference Report, October 2000)

He says further,

From such teachings we conclude that the Final Judgment is not just an evaluation of a sum total of good and evil acts--what we have done. It is an acknowledgment of the final effect of our acts and thoughts--what we have become. It is not enough for anyone just to go through the motions. The commandments, ordinances, and covenants of the gospel are not a list of deposits required to be made in some heavenly account. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a plan that shows us how to become what our Heavenly Father desires us to become.

Peter said something similar in his general epistle. He counseled the righteous followers of Christ in his day to become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:4). To do these, he says, we must add to [our] faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity (2 Peter 1:5-7).

The Book of Mormon described one individual who endured righteously. His name was Ether and he was a prophet to a wicked people. Of him the Book of Mormon says:

For he did cry from the morning, even until the going down of the sun, exhorting the people to believe in God unto repentance lest they should be destroyed, saying unto them that by faith all things are fulfilled---Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with car insurance quotation hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, be led to glorify God (Ether 12:3-4, pg 509).

This path of hope and faith in God which brings men to do good is the narrow path that Jesus spoke of that leads us toward Eternal Life, which is to know Jesus Christ and God (see John 17:3) because we have become like them (see 1 John 3:2). Then, through power of the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who have followed this path will be cleansed from their sins and taken at last to Heaven to dwell with Christ and God for ever.

Why Teams Don't Work

In fact, most so-called "teams" don't work, for one Nefazodone two reasons:

They're not supported or encouraged by the surrounding organization and are not recognized or rewarded for their efforts.
They're not really teams, but merely groups (at best) or (at worst) pseudo teams.

Teams without access to necessary resources, who are discouraged from investing time in team activities or who find their results and recommendations ignored, eventually will flounder in frustration.

And if teams don't receive positive feedback for their efforts, teamwork won't be a positive value for them. To a great extent, people do what they're recognized for.

For the moment, though, let's assume that your organizational culture is conducive to teams and that management knows how to recognize them. We then focus on the second reason teams don't work -- the attributes of the "team" itself.

Groups vs. Teams

What do we mean by the terms group and team?

Generally, a group is three or more people who have something in common. Many such groups, e.g., people stuck in traffic together, all retirees, or people who like vanilla ice cream ... would never be mistaken for teams.

In the workplace, however, a working group often is mistaken for a team.

The following describes the essential attributes, consequences and examples of the various kinds of "teams" identified by Katzenbach and Smith in TARGET="_BLANK" www.amazon.com/Wisdom-Teams-High-Performance-Organization-Essentials/dp/0060522003">The Wisdom of Teams:

A working group is any number of people who work in the same setting and share, or profess to share, a common set of concerns. Their output is the sum of the individual contributions.

[Not bad, but not all that they can be.]
Examples are common and include most organizations and departments. An example in sports is the U.S. figure skating team, whose members train and compete as individuals or pairs.

Much worse is a pseudo team -- a group of people (often a large group) who call themselves a team, while not functioning as such and whose interactions actually detract from each member's individual performance.
Their output is much less than the sum of the individual contributions.
Examples often are notorious and include most committees, some quality teams, the U.S. Congress, prima-donna sports teams, and the figure skating team of Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding.

A real team, on the other hand, is a small number of people (ideally 5 - 10) who take the risks of joint action and work product. They have specific goals and a common approach -- for which they hold themselves individually and mutually accountable. Real team members also possess complementary skills -- functional, problem solving and interpersonal. They are committed to a meaningful purpose focused on performance.
Their output is more than the sum of individual contributions.
Examples are noteworthy and include orchestras, many sports teams, some quality teams, and the ensemble cast of the TV show, Friends.

The ultimate in team effectiveness is the high-performance team. Such teams possess all the attributes of a real team ... plus a deep commitment to one another's personal growth and success.
Their output is much more than the sum of individual contributions.
Examples are inspiring and include the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, the heroes of 9/11, and as dramatized in Apollo 13.

A potential team has begun the process of taking joint action, but they are still in an early stage of development. [In team development lingo, they are forming or storming.] The risks they're taking have not yet paid off.
Their output (thus far) is less than the sum of the individual contributions.
Examples are new teams and, perhaps, your team.

High Risk / High Reward

The Marquise cut is most often in a proportion of 1:2 or the width is half as long as the length. Although it is not the cut that the diamond cutter wants to make, and it is harder to cut and even worse the pointed ends are more easily broken, it nevertheless may end up being the most profitable for him.

It lends itself to wonderful settings and suits some long fingers admirably. It is different and we all dont want to wear what our neighbour is wearing. If you like it, and I just love it, then you are going to be exceptionally happy to get a higher quality diamond for 10-20% less than you are likely to pay for a round cut.

It is one of those diamond shapes which are ideal for running up and down the finger. Just today I was handed a lovely marquise to design and make into a ring. The husband who gave me the ring wants it made so that it goes across the finger. I first asked him how big his wife was. As he didnt know her ring size I wanted to form a picture of her in order to make up my mind what might suit her. Tall lady with long fingers then there is no decision to be made up and down the finger will look lovely.

The other day, I opened one from a colleague and she wrote "Thank you for your insights and courage".

When you have shows like Fear Factor where people eat bugs or shows like Survivor where people are stranded on islands for weeks on end, the term "every day" is the farthest thing from what these shows are. If anything, most reality TV is more bizarre than your typical TV sitcom. And maybe that is part of the allure. Seeing real people in totally unreal situations and watching them turn into TV stars. And if you think none of them do turn into stars, do the names Richard Hatch and Clay Aiken mean anything to you?

But maybe the biggest allure of reality TV is to see just how far these shows will go. Because they are depending on real people for their entertainment, they have to come up with some pretty far out scenarios and concepts to keep our attention. Let's face it, for every Richard Hatch there are a hundred nobodies who's names you'll never remember, let alone their performances, if you can call them that. Many a fan skips the first few weeks of American Idol just to get past all the horrible singers that they'd normally have to endure. If it weren't for Simon, the show would be unwatchable at times.

And maybe the reason reality TV is so big is because we simply have nothing better to do with our time and we look for any excuse to sit in front of the tube and watch whatever is on. Sure, some reality television is pretty good, but there is quite a bit of it that leaves a lot to be desired as far as entertainment value. Yet, we keep coming back week after week.

There must be something to it. One day we just might figure out what it is.

Id finally had enough of cable after their last service hike. It was Karmaevil999 to join the masses of satisfied satellite customers and make the big switch.

That wasnt a problem for me, but a friend was told that Direct TV could not provide a signal in his neighborhood due to some large oak trees in the neighbors yard which interfered with their signal. But, he told me, since the signal from Dish Network came from the opposite direction (go figure), he was able to sign on with them making his decision easier than mine.

Next, I looked at service.

Both companies provided about the same level of service for relatively the same price. Packages for both Dish Network and Direct TV begin at about $19.99 a month, with their most useful family packages ranging around $50-$60.

I did find that Direct TV offered more comprehensive sports packages, including the NFL Sunday Ticket (hooray!), as well as packages covering all of the major college and professional sports teams. They also sport fewer blackout dates in many of the big cities like Philadelphia, making their packages well worth the extra money.

While Direct TV also offers other less-popular international sports Wine Tasting as cricket, rugby and soccer, Dish Network tends to concentrate more on the international sports coverage, according to many of the people I talked to.

One of the things that stood out among the Dish network programming seemed to be their variety of Latino and International channels and shows. For those looking for non-American (non-English) programming, Dish might be the way to go.

Since both companies offered all-digital packages, loads of high definition channels and plenty of individual packages to choose from, my next concern was in regards to set-up fees and installation.

Its true that both providers officially charge for equipment and installation, however, unless youre the kind of person who walks onto a car lot and just pays sticker price, you shouldnt ever have to pay for this.

Both Dish Network and Direct TV continually offer a variety of promotions and specials for first-time users that provide basic installation and equipment for free, in addition to a myriad of coupons and gift certificates that can be redeemed for additional equipment and/or services including 1-3 months of free service; free pay-per-view movies; channel upgrades and more.

Believe it or not, after all that research I came away convinced that neither service outranks the other in more than a few small areas. And they do this for relatively the same price.

In the end, I chose Direct TV simply because they offered the NFL Sunday Ticket and Dish didnt. Boy, am I glad I did!

As promised, Direct TV has given my family more than 250 channels to choose from, loads of sporting events, music concerts and pay-per-view movies. Weve never enjoyed such a crystal clear picture before, and I am happy to report that weve only lost our signal once, and that was during a major snow storm last winter that ended up knocking out the electricity, so we wouldnt have been able to watch TV anyway.

And, by the time the electricity came back on, so did our satellite signal! (Our neighbors with cable werent so lucky their signal was out for three days. Hah!)

Am I glad I ditched cable? You bet I am! I have a clearer picture, more channels to choose from and hassle free service, all for a fraction of the cost!

Some organic produce enthusiasts are cheering about its increasingly widespread availability. Those fears were given some credence when a recent report by the Cornucopia Institute discovered that two of the largest organic dairies in the nation keep their cows primarily in huge feedlots with little or no chance to graze on pasture.

Unlikely, though fountain pens are the kind of pretension I'm susceptible to, but duly noted ware for either the starchy villain or eccentric hero of my next (i.e., first) mystery novel. ("Unfazed, Herr Strechen uncapped his Meisterstuck and glibly fingered its golden nib. It was then, with a cold shiver, that Samantha realized her fate was sealed.") Should Herr Strechen wear a wool "killer suit" from Kilgour ($1,790)? Perhaps a silk Gucci pocket square ($110)?

Much of the pleasure of reading The Big Black Book is derived from being reminded that not everyone works in IT. That is, there are still people like designer Taavo Somer and tailor Martin Greenfield who make vintage suits from dead-stock wool circa 40s and 50s. Or Marcus Wainwright and Nathan Bogle, English transplants to New York who make jeans from denim produced on antique shuttle looms. Or the 83-year-old Belstaff, of England, reproducing the waxed-cotton motorcycle jacket favored by Steve McQueen. "Rumor has it that" he once "passed up a night with his then-girlfriend, Ali MacGraw" the book informs us, "to stay in and wax his Belstaff. This was not a euphemism."

I enjoyed reading the history of the little suit and the pictorial time line tracing its lineage from Harold Lloyd, through Benjamin Braddock, Mick Jagger, Elvis Costello, and Pee-wee Herman.

I'm not the type of guy who could, with a straight face, wear the handsome stallion-profile ring by David Yurman, but it's something to aspire to, I realize looking at the characteristically splendid photo from Lendon Flanagan. That's in a section called "The Little Things," which also ties vintage to voltage with luxuriously arrayed collections grouping, for instance, a $125 Yves Saint Laurent leather bracelet with a Motorazr V3i phone from Motorola ($290). I was enjoying the fantasy until I got to the $3,200 Ralph Lauren Purple Label alligator-leather mouse pad. Note to HR: Any partner using one of these is clearly embezzling.

"The Long Road" features a fun little essay on the how and where of cashmere production. "The Leather" is an understatedly Young Romance romp through shoes, gloves, and wallets made from a range of hides, from the customary calf, to the eyebrow-raising goat, Russian reindeer, ostrich, and peccary (a cousin of the wild boar), to the hair-raising lizard, stingray, python, and crocodile.

Items get heavier Utah Lemon Laws The Land Rover Defender 110 (from $39,365) looks far more useful and considerably less objectionable than the Hummer you might see strutting down Deer Park Ave. in North Babylon, Long Island, as long as you leave off the purple underlights. And the Ford Focus ST ($36,247) looks downright sensible. Is it in the wrong publication? Ah, there's the catch--you can only get it in Europe, so there's that little add-on. The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione ($184,289) is truly drool-inducing, and I say that as a fella not unduly taken with automobiles. I think I'll have Herr Strechen's embittered wife--Gerthe, I'll call her--drive one to Dresden. ("As she revved its 4.7-liter V-8 she experienced a sweet sixth-speed torque that gave her all the pleasures unavailable from her domineering orchid-obsessed spouse.")

The eco-resort in the Maldives looks way too laid back for the Stechens ($540 a night off-peak), but let's have them fly--shall we?--on an eight-passenger Dassault Falcon 2000 ($25 million).

I'm taken with the Grande Chronomaster Open XXT watch by Zenith ($21,500), but fear it won't cope as well with refiance mortgage and sunscreen on my jogs as my Timex sports watch ($35, Sports Authority).

"The Bespoke Life" clues us off-the-wrack guys into the tailored world, and the distinctions involved in peaked lapels, shrunken suits (sorry, Pee-wee, but it still looks a little confining, however mod), and so on. The hunting themed outdoor-wear spread is a bit pushy--surely one might want Wellington Boots without the double-barrelled accessory. But the etiquette and history behind various full-length coats (Chesterfield, evening, tweed, and so on) is illuminating.

Even the Marxist might secretively skip to Page 153, for "The Information" section has valuable guidance on matters like organizing closets, folding shirts, tying shoes (straight laced vs. crisscross vs. over-under), hand care and foot massage (oh come on, you know you care about the former even if you won't confess to desiring the latter), Dopp kit organization, barber terms (thinned out, layered, choppy, razored, texturized), the removal of both body hair (a mercifully laissez-faire approach) and stains (I paid special attention to that one, given my sad history with sauces, dips, toothpastes, and infant spitup of all kinds).

Keep near to you the handy guide on mixing suit-tie-shirt patterns; distinguishing between natural, roped, and padded jacket shoulders; the subtle variations between the Windsor, half Windsor, four-in-hand, and Pratt tie knots; and textile patterns (windowpane, houndstooth, bird's-eye, etc.)

The "6 Drinks Every Man Should Master" is also helpful, but while I'll buy the dry martini, old-fashioned, hot whisky toddy, and possibly even the Hemingway daiquiri, when was the last time a dinner guest demanded unconditionally a Paloma or a caipirinha? Maybe the idea is that you're supposed to be the kind of man to introduce the guest to these treats? I am not that kind of man, and if you want a caipirinha, you'll have to go elsewhere because I'm fresh out of cachaca.

The diplomatic Marxist might assess this year's Big Black Book using its own Page 204 guide on noncommital compliments. "You've done it again!" "What can I say? It's really, really something."

But I'll take a tip from the "How to Negotiate a Party" box, make my way to the sofa ("Choose the middle . . . you'll look more social"), sip my fall-appropriate toddy, and say with designer-desire-drunk faux-reactionary zeal, "Good show, old boys."
